Henrico Sets April 25 Drug Take Back Day to Curb Prescription Misuse

HENRICO, Va.Henrico County officials are urging residents to clear out unused and expired medications during Spring Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026, part of a nationwide effort to reduce overdose risks and prevent prescription misuse.

The Henrico County Police Division will host three drop-off sites across the county from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering a safe, anonymous way to dispose of prescription drugs.

The initiative is part of the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which aims to keep unused medications out of homes where they can be misused, stolen, or accidentally ingested.

Drop-off locations:

  • Henrico Public Safety Building, 7721 E. Parham Road
  • Fairfield Library, 1401 N. Laburnum Avenue
  • Wegmans, 12200 Wegmans Boulevard

No appointment is required, and the service is free and anonymous.

Health officials say unused prescription drugs remain one of the most common entry points into opioid misuse. Removing them from the home is a simple but critical step in preventing addiction, overdoses, and accidental poisonings—particularly among young people.

The event also connects residents to broader mental health and recovery resources available throughout Henrico.
