A familiar stretch of fairgrounds just north of Richmond will transform into a glowing, sky-lit festival this May as the Richmond Hot Air Balloon Festival returns for a two-night run.

Set for May 8–9 at Meadow Event Park, the event blends spectacle and accessibility—bringing together hot air balloons, live entertainment, and family-focused programming in a format designed to draw both regional visitors and local audiences.

At its core are the balloons themselves. Weather permitting, crews will inflate and launch throughout the evening, filling the skyline with color. For attendees looking to move beyond watching, tethered rides—brief ascents anchored to the ground—offer a chance to experience flight firsthand, a bucket-list moment typically limited by availability and wind conditions.

As daylight fades, the festival shifts into its signature nighttime experience.
