Arts in the Park Returns to Byrd Park with Hundreds of Artists, Free Admission

One of Richmond’s longest-running and most celebrated cultural traditions returns this spring as Arts in the Park takes over Byrd Park at the Carillon for a full weekend of visual art, community gathering, and local flavor.

Scheduled for Saturday, May 2 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the nationally recognized juried art show will feature hundreds of artists from across the country. Visitors can expect a wide range of mediums, including painting, ceramics, jewelry, photography, woodworking, sculpture, glass, and textiles—all available for purchase directly from the artists.

Consistently ranked among the top art shows in the country, Arts in the Park has built its reputation not only on the quality and diversity of its exhibitors, but also on its accessibility. Admission is free, and the event is designed to be a full-day experience, with local food vendors on site and open green space that encourages visitors to linger.

The event, presented by the Carillon Civic Association, has deep roots in Richmond’s community history. First launched in 1972 as a neighborhood initiative to bring residents together, the show has grown into a regional draw while maintaining its local character. Proceeds from the event support a wide range of community efforts, including public schools, parks, libraries, and nonprofit organizations throughout the city.

Organizers emphasize accessibility and ease of attendance. Due to limited neighborhood parking, attendees are encouraged to use the free shuttle service running approximately every 30 minutes from City Stadium, located at 3201 Maplewood Avenue. Handicap parking will be available near the Carillon, with traffic assistance on site.

As an outdoor event, Arts in the Park will take place rain or shine. Visitors should note that pets are not permitted, with the exception of service animals. On-site amenities include portable restrooms, handwashing stations, an information booth along Rugby Road, and emergency services provided by Richmond Volunteer Rescue Squad.

More than five decades in, Arts in the Park continues to reflect Richmond’s evolving creative economy while staying grounded in its original mission: bringing people together through art. With its combination of national talent, local impact, and open access, the event remains a cornerstone of the city’s cultural calendar.
