Gas Prices Surge Across Richmond, Some Stations Near $3.65

Gas prices across the Richmond region are climbing sharply, with many stations now posting prices between $3.49 and $3.65 per gallon, marking a noticeable jump that drivers are feeling at the pump this week.

The increase comes just days after prices hovered closer to the low $3.10 range, representing a spike of more than 30 cents in a short period. Across Richmond, Henrico, and Chesterfield, stations along major commuter corridors — particularly near interstate exits and high-traffic routes — are seeing some of the highest prices.

A major factor behind the surge is rising global oil prices, driven in part by escalating tensions and conflict in the Middle East. Instability in key oil-producing regions can disrupt supply expectations and push crude oil prices higher, which in turn leads to increased fuel costs for consumers in markets like Richmond.

Those global pressures are colliding with seasonal trends that typically push prices up this time of year. Refineries are transitioning to summer-blend gasoline, which is more expensive to produce, while demand begins to increase ahead of the spring and summer travel season.

For daily commuters, the shift is immediate. A typical fill-up now costs several dollars more than it did just a week ago, adding pressure to household budgets already balancing rising costs in other areas.

The impact extends beyond individual drivers. Businesses that rely on transportation — including delivery services, contractors, and mobile food vendors — are also seeing operating costs rise as fuel prices climb.

While some stations remain on the lower end of the current range, price differences of 10 to 15 cents between neighborhoods are becoming more common, prompting some drivers to search more actively for lower-cost options.

If current global tensions and seasonal demand continue, prices could remain elevated — or climb further — as Richmond moves closer to peak summer travel months.
