SUMMARY:The Ex-Patriots on Shockoe Sessions Live!
DESCRIPTION:SSL is a live\, weekly concert series celebrating RVA's goldmine of musicianship!\n\n\nConcerts performed at In Your Ear Studios. \nThe Ex-Patriots play a style of traditional Irish music\, infused with the energy of punk and the storytelling of American folk music. With original lyrics composed by lead Jonah\, the band fills in with lively\, fist pumping beats. \nFormed at Lynchburg College nearly 25 years ago\, the Ex-Patriots still put on a high-energy performance unlike any other. Making the move to Richmond in 2002\, the band has built a reputation for sing-alongs\, dancing\, and audience participation. Consisting of traditional instruments like the tin whistle\, mandolin\, and violin\, the band brings an old Irish sound and an original blend of influences to their shows. And while the band long had a rotating cast of characters\, the current lineup has been performing regularly for the past eight years at venues like the Church Hill Irish Festival\, Northside Grill\, Poe’s Pub\, Mainline Brewery\, Gallery 5\, Final Gravity Brewing\, The Artemis in DC\, and many more. \nThe Ex-Patriots are firmly rooted in the style of the Pogues and will always perform a few Pogues songs. However\, they also step outside the box to perform original music inspired by punk\, American folk\, and old-time gospel. Their new album features everything from upbeat drinking songs to lovesick ballads and from the deeply personal to the unabashedly political. \n \nDoors 7pm \nShow 7:30pm SHARP! \nIf you can’t make it in person\, you can watch live or later HERE!

SUMMARY:The Waybacks
DESCRIPTION:The Waybacks appearing in Richmond\, VA\n\n\nBox Office: The Tin Pan charges lower fees for box office versus online sales. Our box office is open Tues-Sat 12PM-5PM. Please visit us during those hours or call 804-447-8189. \nSeating: We assign seats in order of when you purchase your tickets. All reservations are subject to a food and drink minimum of $15 per guest. Gratuity of 20% is automatically added to all food and beverage purchases. \n \n\n\nThe Waybacks\nWebsite | Facebook \n\n\n\nThey draw freely from the old school and the old world\, but The Waybacks are no throwback. They are as uninhibited and unpredictable as the eclectic San Francisco Bay Area that claims them\, and for nearly 25 years their experiments have always proven sharp-witted and musically dazzling. They’re living proof that in music anyway\, evolution and intelligent design are entirely compatible.  \nThe band has been praised by the Chicago Tribune for its “near-ideal balance of irreverence\, chops\, discipline\, and originality.” The folk and roots underpinnings that have long been a Waybacks hallmark are still there\, but after years of playing a huge range of venues and festivals\, The Waybacks contuine to evolve. \n “The whole spirit of improvisation – that’s always been the cornerstone of this band for me\,” says singer\, songwriter and guitarist James Nash. “Through all the stylistic changes and regardless of the instruments we’re playing\, to me the fun of this band has always been that in some ways I can do whatever I feel like doing at any moment.” \nThat improvisational spirit meets the band’s dazzling turn-on-a dime skills during their annual Hillside Album Hour performances at MerleFest\, which have been an ongoing highlight of the festival since 2008. \nA four-piece with a full arsenal of acoustic and electric instruments\, configured around the hot guitar of James Nash and the fiddle virtuosity of Warren Hood and driven by the rhythm section of bassist Joe Kyle Jr. and drummer Chuck Hamilton\, the band filters genre through its own sensibilities and ends up transcending it altogether\, conjuring up musical landscapes that defy boundaries and find common ground. Add in those spirited flights of improvisation and a healthy dose of jaw-dropping chops and what emerges in the end is decidedly Waybacks. A trip well worth taking. \n“These guys can play like bandits.” – Ray Waddell\, BILLBOARD \n“ … geniuses … whose playing stacks up to anything you’ll find.” – Brad Kava\, SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS \n“The musical maelstrom known as The Waybacks blew in from San Francisco\, sending up such a startling tornado of aggressively performed\, high-spirited melodies as to remove all air from the room.  Their inspirational combination of influences — not to mention their recklessly brazen breakneck pace — exposed the band as virtuosos sharing a singular mind-set.” – Buzz McClain\, THE WASHINGTON POST

DESCRIPTION:Victory Boyd appearing at The Tin Pan in Richmond\, VA\n\n\nBox Office: The Tin Pan charges lower fees for box office versus online sales. \n \n\n\nVictory Boyd\nWebsite | Facebook | Instagram \n\n\n\n“There is a rich legacy of music that originates from both the trials and triumphs of the African-American experience\, a legacy that flows like a river through generations and waters the world with songs of hope for the present times and for the future.” \nThis is how Victory Boyd\, a 31-year-old soul and folk artist from Detroit Michigan\, describes not only the sound that she carries but also the responsibility of what she carries as an artist\, entrepreneur\, and advocate. \nVictory started her career at the age of 4yrs old and grew as a vocalist in the family choir. The family later migrated to New York City and presented free concerts in Central Park for 10 years. In 2016 British film producer and director Jeymes Samuel discovered Victory and sent a video of her singing in Central Park to Jay-Z. Jay-Z personally signed Victory and her family in 2016. In 2018 Victory released her debut album “The Broken Instrument” which went on to garner fans globally and caused her to gain recognition from hip-hop mogul Kanye West who later invited Victory to help him write his first Gospel Album entitled Jesus is King\, winning Victory her first Grammy as a songwriter. Victory opened The Secret Place Studios in 2020\, and released her sophomore album Glory Hour in 2023. She has toured in Europe in 2023\, 2024\, and 2025 of note performing at the Premier Gospel Awards in London\, England where she was nominated for International Artist of the Year in 2024. \n2025 has marked a special new milestone as Victory released her first Christmas album\, “Christmas Hymns.” This labor of love—steeped in reverence and wrapped in the tender peace of His presence—was created to accompany both the warmth of family gatherings and the quiet\, sacred moments we share with God alone. \n2026 is proving to be a year for the books. Victory steps into a new era as she releases her third studio album\, “Confessions of a Lonely Girl” on March 27th. It is already garnering national and international attention. The project marks Victory’s most emotionally transparent body of work to date\, capturing the quiet power of vulnerability\, faith\, and womanhood through a collection of deeply personal songs that unfold like private conversations with the soul. Arriving during Women’s History Month\, Confessions of a Lonely Girl draws from Victory’s lived experiences\, offering an unfiltered reflection on love\, spiritual resilience\, and the courage it takes to tell the truth even when it’s uncomfortable. She is looking forward to sharing this body of work with the world!

SUMMARY:Peter White
DESCRIPTION:Peter White appearing at The Tin Pan in Richmond\, VA\n\n\nBox Office: The Tin Pan charges lower fees for box office versus online sales. Our box office is open Tue-Sat 12PM-5PM. Please visit us during those hours or call 804-447-8189. \nSeating: We assign seats in order of when you purchase your tickets. All reservations are subject to a food and drink minimum of $15 per guest. Gratuity of 20% is automatically added to all food and beverage purchases. \n \n\n\nPeter White\nWebsite | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter \n\n\n\nOver the years\, Peter White has maintained a reputation as one of the most versatile and prolific acoustic guitarists on the contemporary jazz landscape. Armed with an unparalleled combination of lyricism and energy\, he combines elements of jazz\, pop and classical guitar to create a sound that is singular and at the same time accessible to a broad audience. \nBorn in 1954 in Luton\, a small town north of London\, White and his family moved to nearby Letchworth shortly after he was born. As a child\, he learned to play several musical instruments\, including the clarinet\, trombone\, violin and piano. And of course\, like so many youngsters growing up during the heyday of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones\, he gravitated to the guitar. \nHe learned his first chords on an acoustic guitar\, then bought his first electric guitar in his early teens and studied the recordings of the reigning guitar gods of the day – Jimi Hendrix\, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. But his musical aspirations ultimately veered back in an acoustic direction following an accident that doomed his beloved electric guitar. The axe was destroyed in a fire\, one that White’s younger brother Danny – an aspiring pianist – accidentally started. \n“The funny thing is that Danny didn’t actually admit to setting that fire for at least twenty-five years\,” says White. “I had been kind of obsessed with the electric guitar at that point in my life\, so that episode kind of forced me to go back to playing the acoustic. In retrospect\, that’s a good thing.” \nIndeed\, White’s interests after the accident shifted more toward the music of acoustic artists like Crosby\, Stills and Nash\, James Taylor\, and Joni Mitchell. Plugged or unplugged\, he had decided by his late teens that music was his calling\, and his first professional gig was at a holiday resort in England when he was 19 years old. \nBarely a year later\, he was invited to join Al Stewart’s band as a keyboardist for a tour of England\, Scotland\, and the U.S. in 1975. In addition to opening for artists like Linda Ronstadt\, Billy Joel and Queen\, White worked with Stewart in the studio in the making of Year of the Cat\, which became a huge hit for Stewart in 1976. The tour and the album marked the beginning of a twenty-year association with Stewart. In that time\, the two musicians co-wrote numerous songs\, including Stewart’s 1978 hit\, “Time Passages.” \nBy the beginning of the ‘80s\, White and Stewart had relocated to Los Angeles\, formed a band called Shot in the Dark\, and established a music publishing company called Lobster Music. Around the same time\, Danny White – he of the burning guitar incident several years earlier – formed a group called Matt Bianco\, which included a talented Polish singer named Basia Trzetrzelewska. Danny White and Basia splintered off to launch the singer’s solo career with the 1987 debut album\, Time and Tide\, which featured Peter White on guitar. \nAfter fifteen years as a backup musician and a session player\, White launched his solo recording career with the 1990 release of Reveillez-Vous (French for “Wake up\,” a title chosen by White in honor of his French mother). The album included several unused songs that White had written for Stewart\, and it became a favorite among contemporary jazz radio stations. \nHe followed with three records on the Sindrome label – Excusez-Moi (1991)\, Promenade (1993) and Reflections (1994) – before signing with Columbia for the 1996 release of Caravan of Dreams. He maintained an ambitious release schedule through the ‘90s and beyond\, but also found time to appear on recordings  by many of his friends\, including Dave Koz\, Rick Braun\, Richard Elliot\, Jeff Golub\, Lee Ritenour\, Kirk Whalum\, Boney James and many others. \nOn the road\, he has participated in numerous “Guitars and Saxes” tours with the aforementioned players\, and has established an annual “Peter White Christmas Tour” – the latter enterprise fueled by the success of his two highly regarded holiday albums\, Songs of the Season (1997) and A Peter White Christmas (2007). \nGood Day\, released in 2009 on Peak Records\, a division of Concord Music Group\, was White’s first collection of original songs in several years. “I just started going through my backlog of material – songs that I’d never finished\, some going as far back as ten or fifteen years – and I discovered that I had a lot of gems that I really wanted to show to the world\,” he says. “I wanted to record them in my own time and in my own way\, without any outside influence or interference.” \nWhite released Here We Go in 2012 on Heads Up International\, a division of Concord Music Group. The 11-song set\, produced by White and DC (George Benson\, Larry Carlton\, Bob James\, Patty Austin)\, featured several high-profile guest musicians\, including saxophonists David Sanborn and Kirk Whalum\, and pianist Philippe Saisse\, and included a range of original material written in the recent and distant past. “I wanted variety\,” says White. “I wanted songs that moved me\, in the hopes that they’ll move the listener as well. I’m on a journey\, and I want to bring with me anyone who’s willing to follow.” \nSmile\, released on October 7\, 2014\, is the final CD in White’s trilogy of albums consisting entirely of his own material. Co-produced with DC\, the recording features ten tracks – some were written recently\, some White wrote along the way with close friends and some were from the vault. Special guests include Mindi Abair (vocals)\, Rick Braun (horns)\, Euge Groove (soprano sax) and Philippe Saisse (keyboards\, piano and orchestra programming). White’s daughter\, Charlotte\, plays violin on one song. \nIn a career that spans nearly four decades\, over a dozen solo recordings and countless performances\, White insists that it’s the faces in the crowd and the fans that keep the experience fresh. “I’ll play a live show\, and someone will come to me afterward and say\, ‘Oh\, I loved this CD\,’ or ‘This song helped me through a bad time\,’” he explains. “Or I get emails from people saying\, ‘Oh\, I love the way you covered one of my favorite songs on your record back in 1994.’ The idea that someone can write me an email and tell me about something I did on a record that was released fifteen years ago – you can’t buy that. That’s priceless. That’s what keeps me going – the idea that people out there really care about what I do\, the idea that I’ve made a difference for someone.”

SUMMARY:Charlie Mars & Abe Partridge
DESCRIPTION:Charlie Mars & Abe Partridge appearing at The Tin Pan in Richmond\, VA\n\n\nBox Office: The Tin Pan charges lower fees for box office versus online sales. \n \n\n\nCharlie Mars\nWebsite | Facebook | Instagram | Twitter \n\n\n\nCharlie Mars lives on a gravel paved County Road in the hill country of Yalobusha County\, Mississippi. Why? He used to live in a college town with all the college town stuff that musicians like. He fell in love with these Cane Corso Mastiff puppies on Instagram that a guy in Brazil was breeding\, and Charlie had recently made some money on a crypto coin called Shiba Inu\, that was enough to pay for the dog and shipping. The puppy from Brazil that Charlie picked up in Arkansas would grow to be 130 lbs\, and quite a handful. After the dog bit a friend in the little town Charlie was living in\, his brother found some clear cut land in the middle of nowhere with a weird house on it\, and Charlie decided to buy it and move there. His dog needed some space and he was burned out on the whole “modern thing”. His Grandfather was a cattle farmer and a lot of the people he respected did things close to the land he purchased. He got rid of a television and learned how to harvest vegetables. He introduced himself to his neighbors and started writing about what was around him in his new country home. \nGrowing up in Mississippi\, he was a kid who listened to the radio a lot. WNSL played 80’s pop radio hits\, and he also got into classic singer-songwriters like Neil Young and Jackson Browne. \nWhen he was in high school\, he formed his first band that played a mix of covers and originals. They would play at the local VFW and Charlie remembers his mother would often need to drive the band members home in her station wagon when they drank too much at gigs. \nCharlie would start to write his own songs with the intent of never squeezing himself into a single genre. He tried to keep his initial songs “classic”\, and he always liked Country music (the less popular kind). He then got into Jam Bands and Alt-Country music\, especially Uncle Tupelo. He majored in English while attending college at SMU in Dallas\, and always liked being a wordsmith. A friend introduced Charlie to Daniel Lanois’ music\, which inspired him to start experimenting more with atmospheric sounds. Like any songwriter worth his salt\, Mars employs his art as a channel towards personal discovery\, candidly exploring all the human limitations – from pride and fear to cynicism self-doubt – that stand in the way of his attaining true happiness. \nHe has released 7 studio albums\, a series of EPs\, and several singles over the past 20 years. He’s shared the stage with the likes of REM\, KT Tunstall and Steve Earle\, and has been profiled in Forbes\, USA Today\, American Songwriter and many major media outlets. If you ask him\, Charlie says he’s made a living playing in small clubs and backyards. But he still wants to have a tour bus and play in front of big crowds. “It’s fun to have a dream. It keeps me going” he says. “I can’t believe I made it this far in music. I figure while I had the chance\, I should try to represent the people and the culture that shaped me.” \n\n\nAbe Partridge\nWebsite | Facebook | Instagram \n\n\n\nAbe Partridge is a heralded musician\, singer/songwriter\, visual artist\, storyteller and documentarian based in Mobile\, Alabama. Since the release of his debut album Cotton Fields and Blood for Days in 2018\, Partridge has toured relentlessly\, including several tours throughout Europe. He is a regular at several great music festivals such as the 30a Songwriters Fest\, and the Laurel Cove Music Fest as well as listening rooms across the country including the legendary Bluebird Cafe in Nashville\, Eddies Attic in Atlanta\, and Duke’s in Indianapolis. Recently\, he toured extensively with Matthew Sweet\, Drivin’ N Cryin’\, and Dar Williams in support of his latest release Love in the Dark. He has performed on several syndicated NPR radio programs including\, Mountain Stage and Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour.  \nPartridge along with co-producer Ferrill Gibbs created the Alabama Astronaut podcast\, where Abe attempts to properly record songs previously undocumented at holiness\, serpent-handling churches in Appalachia. It was in the Top Ten documentary podcasts on Apple Podcasts within days of its release and now has over 100k downloads and a 4.9-star rating.  \nWhen Partridge is not writing or touring\, he is also a highly acclaimed visual artist. His paintings\, primarily acrylic on tarred board and watercolors\, now hang in art galleries around the southeast and in the private collections of Tyler Childers\, Mike Wolfe (American Pickers)\, Rick Hirsch (Wet Willie)\, Tommy Stinson (The Replacements) and Tommy Prine. Abe’s art is featured yearly at Howard Finster’s Paradise Gardens. His artwork was featured in Stephen King’s 2019 sequel to The Shining – Dr. Sleep. He painted the cover art for Charlie Parr’s\, Last Of The Better Days Ahead (Smithsonian Folkways). He also created art for Tyler Childers’ 2022 release\, Can I Take My Hounds To Heaven? (RCA)\, as well as promotional posters for The Red Clay Strays’ 2024 release Made by These Moments (RCA) and a limited version cover art for their 2026 single\, Demons In Your Choir (RCA).  \nPartridge’s first major art exhibition With Signs Following was on display at the Alabama Contemporary Art Center in Mobile\, AL in 2023. His book “With Signs Following – Portraits + Stories from the Serpent-Handling Faith” released following the exhibit to wide acclaim. \nThree members of The Red Clay Strays occasionally join Abe for a punk side-project they share together\, The Psych Peas. They have one album\, Lackluster\, that has only been released on physical formats. The band has created a reputation for giving high-energy\, chaotic live performances\, and has garnered a cult-like following. John P. Strohm of The Lemonheads compared them to “Scratch Acid and Butthole Surfers in their prime”. \nAbe also works with the legendary North Carolina songwriter\, David Childers and his band The Serpents. Together\, they are The Satan\, You’re a Liars\, with an album\, Let’s Build This House Together\, released on vinyl\, CD\, digital download\, and Bandcamp in early 2025. \nHe is now gearing up for a 2027 release of a new album produced by Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth.  \nAmerican Songwriter Magazine said\, “Abe Partridge has established himself as one of the most respected songwriters and visual folk artists in the southeast.”

Gratuity of 20% is automatically added to all food and beverage purchases. \n \n\n\nFred Eaglesmith\nWebsite | Facebook | Instagram \n\n\n\nFred Eaglesmith has played them all; from television’s The Late Show with David Letterman to the legendary Grand Ole Opry in Nashville to the refined acoustics of the Lincoln Center\, but this fall\, Canada’s most uncompromising troubadour brings his whip-smart songwriting and road-tested show back to the very communities that inspired him.  \nAnd you won’t want to miss it.  \nThe Juno Award winning poet of rural Canada has spent four decades turning service station stories\, county fair romances\, broken down old tractors\, and gravel roads into timeless songs. His devoted fan base\, affectionately known as ‘Fred Heads’ and a reputation for delivering shows that are equal parts intimate and electrifying have established this founder of alt-country as the benchmark for his contemporaries as well as aspiring artists. Eaglesmith’s songs\, filled with wit\, heart\, and unvarnished truth have been covered by the likes of Alan Jackson\, Toby Keith\, Miranda Lambert and countless others. Over 120 artists from Bluegrass to Punk have recorded his popular tune\, “Alcohol & Pills.” His hit\, “Trucker Speed\,” has been named to the 100 Top Americana Songs of All Time and garnered over 60 million views with over 6 thousand independent videos having been created on Tik Tok.  \nFor the last 15 years\, Eaglesmith has been joined by Texas-born\, multi-instrumentalist\, Tif Ginn\, who also happens to be his wife. Together they have developed a musical symbiosis that only comes from countless miles\, shared stages and an undeniable chemistry. And now with the addition of their band\, which includes their 16-year-old\, 30-year-old songs land like fresh revelations and new tunes take shape in real time.  \nEaglesmith carries the weight of a legend lightly. After a lifetime of touring and 25 albums under his belt he’d have every right to rest on his laurels. Instead\, he’s doing what he’s always done: pointing the truck toward Canada’s backroads\, where the next great night of music waits to be sparked. His signature sound of country soul & rock energy with his between-song tales only he can tell- equally hilarious & heartbreaking\, make the Fred Eaglesmith Show unmatched. Fred doesn’t just perform in these small towns\, he plugs into their heartbeat-after all these years\, that’s still his superpower.

SUMMARY:Colby T. Helms & The Virginia Creepers
DESCRIPTION:Colby T. Helms appearing at The Tin Pan in Richmond\, VA\n\n\nBox Office: The Tin Pan charges lower fees for box office versus online sales. \n \n\n\nColby T. Helms\nWebsite | Facebook | Instagram \n\n\n\nEvery town has them.  \nThe underdogs. The people who never quite fit in. The ones who are misunderstood. The ones who strive\, stumble\, and keep going anyway. \nWith his second album\, One for the Losers\, Colby T. Helms tells their stories. \nRaised in the Blue Ridge foothills of Southwest Virginia\, Helms launched his career as a teenager\, writing raw and ragged songs that drew from the people\, places\, stories\, and struggles that shaped him. If his debut album chronicled his own experience\, then One for the Losers widens the frame by looking outward. Across a dozen tracks\, Helms shines a light on the overlooked and misunderstood characters who’ve crossed his path\, from troubled friends and fallen mentors to moonshiners\, immigrants\, and working-class Virginians trying to survive in a world that threatens to leave them behind. \n“This is a record for people who don’t feel like they have a voice\,” he says\, speaking with a southern drawl colored not only by his Appalachian roots\, but by the years he’s spent singing at folk festivals\, fiddlers’ conventions\, campgrounds\, and dive bars\, too. “I wrote my first album while I was still in high school\, then I spent a few years on the road\, playing those songs every night. One for the Losers delves into what it’s like to be a road musician\, as well as the characters and challenges you encounter along the way — and some of the ones waiting for you back home\, too.” \nCountry. Bluegrass. Folk. Helms’ interpretation of American mountain music bears the fingerprints of them all. Largely recorded in Nashville with producer David “Ferg” Ferguson\, the album is as diverse as its influences\, balancing electric full-band performances with intimate\, stripped-back recordings that place Helms’ storytelling front and center. For Helms\, that balance feels like an extension of a childhood spent on the borderlines\, embracing the grey areas between social groups. \n“In high school\, you were either an artistic kid who did choir and theater\, or you were a redneck in FFA\,” he remembers. “I did it all. I never fit into any one category\, and I think my music is the same way. I play multiple instruments. I play multiple genres. I’ve got more than a few sides of music in me.” \nThat diversity springs to life on the album’s title track\, which was inspired by a childhood friend whose struggles with alcohol ended in tragedy. Rather than offering easy answers\, Helms uses the song to wrestle with grief\, survivor’s guilt\, and resilience. “Young and Dumb” examines addiction through the eyes of someone losing a battle with it. “Deadhead on the Weekend” tells the true story a troubled former boss whose self-destruction ultimately cost him his job\, while acknowledging the lessons he still left behind. \nElsewhere\, Helms broadens the album’s perspective. “Armed and Dangerous” tells the story of his girlfriend’s father\, who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border as a child and survived hardships that forced him into a life few Americans could imagine. Built around cinematic imagery and rhythms inspired by Mexican music\, the song offers a perspective rarely heard in contemporary country songwriting. Then there’s “Ballad of the Bondurant Boys\,” an epic acoustic narrative inspired by Franklin County’s infamous moonshine era. Like many of Helms’ best songs\, it blurs the line between history lesson and folk tale\, preserving a piece of regional culture while emphasizing more universal themes like power\, injustice\, and survival. \nYou can take Helms out of Virginia\, but you can’t take Virginia out of Helms. His songwriting incorporates waltzes\, ballads\, and old-school rhythms that once formed the backbone of Appalachian dances but have become rare in modern roots music. Songs like “Fool’s Gold\,” “Voices Shot\,” and “Ballad of the Bondurant Boys” pay tribute to those traditions\, while tracks like “Welcome to the Freak Show” serve as a mission statement\, reminding us that regardless of background\, geography\, or circumstance\, everyone deserves a seat at the table. “Whether you’re from the backwoods or suburbs\, we all have the same blood in our veins\,” he says. \nThat idea may be the thread connecting every song on One For the Losers. Whether he’s singing about a struggling musician\, a moonshiner\, a man crossing the desert in search of a better life\, or a friend lost too soon\, Helms approaches each story with compassion. He isn’t interested in dividing people into winners and losers. He’s more interested in understanding them…and maybe drawing a few connections between them\, too.  \nFor Helms\, that responsibility carries extra weight because of where he comes from. Appalachia is one of the most misunderstood regions in America\, often flattened into stereotypes that ignore its complexity and creativity. As a proud resident of the area\, he hopes to offer a fuller picture. “Appalachia isn’t represented to its fullest extent\,” he says. “Artists like me\, it’s our job to carry that torch and shed some light on that region.” \nWith One for the Losers\, Colby T. Helms does more than shine a light on Appalachia. He shines a light on the people living within it: the dreamers\, outcasts\, survivors\, cautionary tales\, and everyday souls whose stories rarely make the spotlight\, but are just as deserving as everybody else.
