Over the course of eight solo albums\, many side projects\, and more guest appearances than most could do in one lifetime\, his powerful songs have given voice to the voiceless and shed light into dark and hidden corners of the American dream. \nPierce’s newest record\, Songs For The Heavy Hearted\, captures moments in the lives of everyday people as they struggle with crisis and encapsulates everything that has been so powerful about his music to date. \nAt its core\, Songs For The Heavy Hearted is a diary of — and love letter to — freedom fighters everywhere; its constant refrain is that love\, joy\, hope\, and softness are not things we need to sacrifice to fight the good fight. In fact\, they are integral. \nAs Pierce explains\, “Even as we refuse to take our rights for granted\, it’s getting harder to find a little bit of light to keep us going. Whatever happens\, we have to find a way to count our blessings and seek liberty for ourselves and fight for the liberty of others.” \nThese are lessons Pierce learned early on. Growing up in an interracial household when his parents’ marriage still wasn’t recognized as legal in 16 states\, he witnessed a cross burned on his front lawn as a child. “I held optimism near to my heart\, even with the stuff we went through as a family\, we never gave way to despair.” \nWhen he was 15 and developed a rare hearing disorder called Otosclerosis that led to total hearing loss (before a surgery that regained partial hearing in one ear)\, he did not back down. “That could have been it for me\, but instead I learned resilience\,” Pierce says. “I turned a crisis into a superpower. It’s what you have to do.” \nWith supporting performances from Allison Russell\, Steve Earle\, Grey DeLisle\, and Garrison Starr\, Songs For The Heavy Hearted embodies the belief that ‘we shall overcome’ and the sentiment has never sounded more uplifting and within reach. \nOver decades of touring\, Pierce has performed as both a headliner and sought-after support act alongside Neil Young\, B.B. King\, Al Green\, Steve Earle\, Seal\, Aaron Neville\, Jill Scott\, Allison Russell\, the Blind Boys of Alabama\, and many others. With original lyrics composed by lead Jonah\, the band fills in with lively\, fist pumping beats.  \nFormed at Lynchburg College nearly 25 years ago\, the Ex-Patriots still put on a high-energy performance unlike any other. Making the move to Richmond in 2002\, the band has built a reputation for sing-alongs\, dancing\, and audience participation. Consisting of traditional instruments like the tin whistle\, mandolin\, and violin\, the band brings an old Irish sound and an original blend of influences to their shows. And while the band long had a rotating cast of characters\, the current lineup has been performing regularly for the past eight years at venues like the Church Hill Irish Festival\, Northside Grill\, Poe’s Pub\, Mainline Brewery\, Gallery 5\, Final Gravity Brewing\, The Artemis in DC\, and many more.  \nThe Ex-Patriots are firmly rooted in the style of the Pogues and will always perform a few Pogues songs. However\, they also step outside the box to perform original music inspired by punk\, American folk\, and old-time gospel. Gratuity of 20% is automatically added to all food and beverage purchases. \n \n\n\nVictory Boyd\nWebsite | Facebook | Instagram \n\n\n\n“There is a rich legacy of music that originates from both the trials and triumphs of the African-American experience\, a legacy that flows like a river through generations and waters the world with songs of hope for the present times and for the future.” \nThis is how Victory Boyd\, a 31-year-old soul and folk artist from Detroit Michigan\, describes not only the sound that she carries but also the responsibility of what she carries as an artist\, entrepreneur\, and advocate. \nVictory started her career at the age of 4yrs old and grew as a vocalist in the family choir. The family later migrated to New York City and presented free concerts in Central Park for 10 years. In 2016 British film producer and director Jeymes Samuel discovered Victory and sent a video of her singing in Central Park to Jay-Z. Jay-Z personally signed Victory and her family in 2016. In 2018 Victory released her debut album “The Broken Instrument” which went on to garner fans globally and caused her to gain recognition from hip-hop mogul Kanye West who later invited Victory to help him write his first Gospel Album entitled Jesus is King\, winning Victory her first Grammy as a songwriter. Victory opened The Secret Place Studios in 2020\, and released her sophomore album Glory Hour in 2023. Bostic/The Cultural Current\n\n\n\nRichmond’s 2nd Street Festival returns to historic Jackson Ward on October 3–4\, 2026\, for its 38th year celebrating the neighborhood’s culture\, music\, and history. \n\n\n\nThe free\, two-day festival transforms an eight-block stretch of North 2nd Street into a community celebration featuring three stages of live music\, Artists Row\, a marketplace\, food vendors\, a Kidz Zone and the Richmond Metropolitan Antique Car Club. \n\n\n\nThe festival honors Jackson Ward’s legacy as the historic heart of Richmond’s African American community and the era when 2nd Street was widely known as the “Harlem of the South.” \n\n\n\nAcclaimed R&B artist Stokley headlines the Waverly R. Crawley Main Stage on Saturday\, October 3\, performing at 5:50 p.m. The former lead vocalist of Mint Condition has built a career spanning R&B\, soul and funk\, both with the group and as a solo artist. \n\n\n\nOn Sunday\, Richmond saxophonist\, songwriter and producer J. Plunky Branch and his band\, Plunky & Oneness\, close the Main Stage with a 5 p.m. performance. Branch has spent more than five decades blending jazz\, funk\, R&B\, house and go-go while maintaining deep roots in Richmond’s music community. \n\n\n\nBeyond the Main Stage\, the festival features performances on the Joe Kennedy Jr. Jazz Stage and Eggleston Hotel Community Stage\, along with local artists\, dancers\, spoken-word performers and community groups. \n\n\n\nVisitors can also explore Artists Row and the festival marketplace\, enjoy food from festival vendors\, participate in family activities at the Kidz Zone and take free guided walking tours exploring the history of Jackson Ward. \n\n\n\nFestival Hours \n\n\n\nSaturday\, October 3: 11:30 a.m.–7 p.m.Sunday\, October 4: Noon–6 p.m. \n\n\n\nLocation \n\n\n\nHistoric Jackson WardNorth 2nd Street between East Broad and East Jackson streetsRichmond\, VA 23219 \n\n\n\nAdmission is free. Armed with an unparalleled combination of lyricism and energy\, he combines elements of jazz\, pop and classical guitar to create a sound that is singular and at the same time accessible to a broad audience. \nBorn in 1954 in Luton\, a small town north of London\, White and his family moved to nearby Letchworth shortly after he was born. As a child\, he learned to play several musical instruments\, including the clarinet\, trombone\, violin and piano. And of course\, like so many youngsters growing up during the heyday of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones\, he gravitated to the guitar. \nHe learned his first chords on an acoustic guitar\, then bought his first electric guitar in his early teens and studied the recordings of the reigning guitar gods of the day – Jimi Hendrix\, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. But his musical aspirations ultimately veered back in an acoustic direction following an accident that doomed his beloved electric guitar. The axe was destroyed in a fire\, one that White’s younger brother Danny – an aspiring pianist – accidentally started. \n“The funny thing is that Danny didn’t actually admit to setting that fire for at least twenty-five years\,” says White. “I had been kind of obsessed with the electric guitar at that point in my life\, so that episode kind of forced me to go back to playing the acoustic. In retrospect\, that’s a good thing.” \nIndeed\, White’s interests after the accident shifted more toward the music of acoustic artists like Crosby\, Stills and Nash\, James Taylor\, and Joni Mitchell. Plugged or unplugged\, he had decided by his late teens that music was his calling\, and his first professional gig was at a holiday resort in England when he was 19 years old. \nBarely a year later\, he was invited to join Al Stewart’s band as a keyboardist for a tour of England\, Scotland\, and the U.S. in 1975. In addition to opening for artists like Linda Ronstadt\, Billy Joel and Queen\, White worked with Stewart in the studio in the making of Year of the Cat\, which became a huge hit for Stewart in 1976. The tour and the album marked the beginning of a twenty-year association with Stewart. In that time\, the two musicians co-wrote numerous songs\, including Stewart’s 1978 hit\, “Time Passages.” \nBy the beginning of the ‘80s\, White and Stewart had relocated to Los Angeles\, formed a band called Shot in the Dark\, and established a music publishing company called Lobster Music. Around the same time\, Danny White – he of the burning guitar incident several years earlier – formed a group called Matt Bianco\, which included a talented Polish singer named Basia Trzetrzelewska. Danny White and Basia splintered off to launch the singer’s solo career with the 1987 debut album\, Time and Tide\, which featured Peter White on guitar. \nAfter fifteen years as a backup musician and a session player\, White launched his solo recording career with the 1990 release of Reveillez-Vous (French for “Wake up\,” a title chosen by White in honor of his French mother). The album included several unused songs that White had written for Stewart\, and it became a favorite among contemporary jazz radio stations. \nHe followed with three records on the Sindrome label – Excusez-Moi (1991)\, Promenade (1993) and Reflections (1994) – before signing with Columbia for the 1996 release of Caravan of Dreams. He maintained an ambitious release schedule through the ‘90s and beyond\, but also found time to appear on recordings  by many of his friends\, including Dave Koz\, Rick Braun\, Richard Elliot\, Jeff Golub\, Lee Ritenour\, Kirk Whalum\, Boney James and many others. \nOn the road\, he has participated in numerous “Guitars and Saxes” tours with the aforementioned players\, and has established an annual “Peter White Christmas Tour” – the latter enterprise fueled by the success of his two highly regarded holiday albums\, Songs of the Season (1997) and A Peter White Christmas (2007). \nGood Day\, released in 2009 on Peak Records\, a division of Concord Music Group\, was White’s first collection of original songs in several years. “I just started going through my backlog of material – songs that I’d never finished\, some going as far back as ten or fifteen years – and I discovered that I had a lot of gems that I really wanted to show to the world\,” he says. “I wanted to record them in my own time and in my own way\, without any outside influence or interference.” \nWhite released Here We Go in 2012 on Heads Up International\, a division of Concord Music Group. The 11-song set\, produced by White and DC (George Benson\, Larry Carlton\, Bob James\, Patty Austin)\, featured several high-profile guest musicians\, including saxophonists David Sanborn and Kirk Whalum\, and pianist Philippe Saisse\, and included a range of original material written in the recent and distant past. “I wanted variety\,” says White. “I wanted songs that moved me\, in the hopes that they’ll move the listener as well. Why? He used to live in a college town with all the college town stuff that musicians like. He fell in love with these Cane Corso Mastiff puppies on Instagram that a guy in Brazil was breeding\, and Charlie had recently made some money on a crypto coin called Shiba Inu\, that was enough to pay for the dog and shipping. The puppy from Brazil that Charlie picked up in Arkansas would grow to be 130 lbs\, and quite a handful. After the dog bit a friend in the little town Charlie was living in\, his brother found some clear cut land in the middle of nowhere with a weird house on it\, and Charlie decided to buy it and move there. His dog needed some space and he was burned out on the whole “modern thing”. His Grandfather was a cattle farmer and a lot of the people he respected did things close to the land he purchased. He got rid of a television and learned how to harvest vegetables. He introduced himself to his neighbors and started writing about what was around him in his new country home. \nGrowing up in Mississippi\, he was a kid who listened to the radio a lot. WNSL played 80’s pop radio hits\, and he also got into classic singer-songwriters like Neil Young and Jackson Browne. \nWhen he was in high school\, he formed his first band that played a mix of covers and originals. They would play at the local VFW and Charlie remembers his mother would often need to drive the band members home in her station wagon when they drank too much at gigs. \nCharlie would start to write his own songs with the intent of never squeezing himself into a single genre. He tried to keep his initial songs “classic”\, and he always liked Country music (the less popular kind). He then got into Jam Bands and Alt-Country music\, especially Uncle Tupelo. He majored in English while attending college at SMU in Dallas\, and always liked being a wordsmith. A friend introduced Charlie to Daniel Lanois’ music\, which inspired him to start experimenting more with atmospheric sounds. Like any songwriter worth his salt\, Mars employs his art as a channel towards personal discovery\, candidly exploring all the human limitations – from pride and fear to cynicism self-doubt – that stand in the way of his attaining true happiness. \nHe has released 7 studio albums\, a series of EPs\, and several singles over the past 20 years. He’s shared the stage with the likes of REM\, KT Tunstall and Steve Earle\, and has been profiled in Forbes\, USA Today\, American Songwriter and many major media outlets. If you ask him\, Charlie says he’s made a living playing in small clubs and backyards. But he still wants to have a tour bus and play in front of big crowds. “It’s fun to have a dream. It keeps me going” he says. “I can’t believe I made it this far in music. His paintings\, primarily acrylic on tarred board and watercolors\, now hang in art galleries around the southeast and in the private collections of Tyler Childers\, Mike Wolfe (American Pickers)\, Rick Hirsch (Wet Willie)\, Tommy Stinson (The Replacements) and Tommy Prine. Abe’s art is featured yearly at Howard Finster’s Paradise Gardens. His artwork was featured in Stephen King’s 2019 sequel to The Shining – Dr. Sleep. He painted the cover art for Charlie Parr’s\, Last Of The Better Days Ahead (Smithsonian Folkways). He also created art for Tyler Childers’ 2022 release\, Can I Take My Hounds To Heaven? (RCA)\, as well as promotional posters for The Red Clay Strays’ 2024 release Made by These Moments (RCA) and a limited version cover art for their 2026 single\, Demons In Your Choir (RCA).  \nPartridge’s first major art exhibition With Signs Following was on display at the Alabama Contemporary Art Center in Mobile\, AL in 2023. His book “With Signs Following – Portraits + Stories from the Serpent-Handling Faith” released following the exhibit to wide acclaim. \nThree members of The Red Clay Strays occasionally join Abe for a punk side-project they share together\, The Psych Peas. They have one album\, Lackluster\, that has only been released on physical formats. The band has created a reputation for giving high-energy\, chaotic live performances\, and has garnered a cult-like following. John P. Strohm of The Lemonheads compared them to “Scratch Acid and Butthole Surfers in their prime”. \nAbe also works with the legendary North Carolina songwriter\, David Childers and his band The Serpents. Together\, they are The Satan\, You’re a Liars\, with an album\, Let’s Build This House Together\, released on vinyl\, CD\, digital download\, and Bandcamp in early 2025. \nHe is now gearing up for a 2027 release of a new album produced by Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth.  \nAmerican Songwriter Magazine said\, “Abe Partridge has established himself as one of the most respected songwriters and visual folk artists in the southeast.”
