The Electric Seance
October 29 @ 7:00 PM – 9:30 PM
This Halloween season, Richmond bands HOTPANTS and BLACKWOOD STATION are raising the musical dead with The Electric Seance, an immersive two-act concert that summons the songs of two of rock music’s most influential artists.
HOTPANTS will channel the music of Bob Dylan, while BLACKWOOD STATION takes on The Beatles. Rather than a traditional tribute show, each Richmond band will perform a full set devoted to its chosen artist, filtering familiar songs through its own musical identity.
Led by singer-songwriter Mackenzie Roark, HOTPANTS blends roots rock and roll with Americana. The Richmond-based band has spent the past several years performing across the Mid-Atlantic, including appearances at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion and Red Wing Roots Music Festival. HOTPANTS also won FloydFest’s 2024 On-the-Rise competition and has built a reputation around its independent approach to recording, releasing and performing original music.
BLACKWOOD STATION, led by Ian Blackwood, explores the intersections of folk, psychedelia and rock and roll. Formed in Richmond in late 2021, the group approaches American roots music with an experimental streak. Its most recent release, In The Gamma Garden, moves further into psychedelic and art-rock territory following the group’s folk-rock self-titled debut.
For The Electric Seance, both bands turn their attention to the past for a Halloween-season performance built around reinterpretation rather than imitation. Across two acts, the music of Bob Dylan and The Beatles returns to the stage through two distinctly Richmond bands.
